About COSA

History

COSA was previously known as Keep Franklin County Beautiful (KFCB) and was part of the Keep America Beautiful that was formed in the 1960s as part of a national beautification and litter prevention effort spearheaded by Lady Bird Johnson.

KFCB was formed in 1982 as part of Franklin County government and subsequently transferred to the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio (SWACO) in 1989. In 2003, KFCB elected to be independent of SWACO. In 2007 KFCB was renamed to COSA and the mission was expanded beyond beautification and litter prevention to encompass all aspects of sustainability.
